Poems by Gertrude Stein

Posters, 18" x 23" each
Exhibited in Embracing (37th Annual Exhibition of The Chicago Korean-American Art Association). Wheeling, IL, 2011.

The poems are from Gertrude Stein’s 1914 Tender Buttons. It is comprised of six posters, and they are reinterpretation of the poems in a manner which expresses Stein’s relationship to words, text, and semantic structure while remaining still functional and readable. Gertrude Stein was a cubist, and the posters visually and typographically explore the most significant cubist theme, fragmentation. Through the composition and visual manifestations, the reader can gain a greater understanding of her writing philosophy and various unexpected reading experiences.
